ARTIST DEVELOPMENT PRESENTS
Lunchtime Lecture/Screening Yuri Norstein's The Tale of Tales
(1979, 27 min. 50 sec.) with animation historian Charles Solomon _ = One of the most honored
animation, The Tale of Tales is a poetic, highly personal reflection on the changes war and the 20th century bring to Russian country life. Its dreamlike structure makes it very different from what Americans expect animated film to be, but Norstein's images have a way of staying with audiences, haunting their memories and imaginations. These singular qualities have caused critics to compare Norstein to Tarkovsky, Pushkin and Chekhov. This will be a rare look at the work of one of the most distinguished Russian animators.
RESERVATIONS will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6. Please call the RSVP line 8228 x9359. Lunch will be provided.
fee Yuri Goldstein's "Tale of Tales" See, was named the "Best f= Animated Film of All Time" by p= the Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival in 1984. Other awards:

| Those Crazy Caricatures...
Here are some highlights from last week’s Caricature show and scenes from the Second Annual Follies program. A whopping 460 caricature entries were received by the ARL in time for the show’s April 1 opening. An abundant array of amazingly brilliant technicolor renderings, like “An American in Paris” and other well-crafted and sketched works have elevated the otherwise humble caricature to a new art form.
